Operating Performance of the Nonferrous Metals Industry from January to June

In June, the nationwide output of ten major nonferrous metals totaled 461.5 thousand tons, up 1.9% year on year. Specifically, copper production reached 776,000 tons, an increase of 11.7%; electrolytic aluminum output stood at 2.833 million tons, up 0.8%; lead production amounted to 402,000 tons, up 8.9%; and zinc production was 475,000 tons, down 5.0% compared with the same period last year. Alumina production reached 5.864 million tons, up 6.3%. Copper‑based products totaled 1.572 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.8%, while aluminum‑based products amounted to 4.469 million tons, down 0.1% from the previous year.
From January to June, the nationwide output of ten major nonferrous metals reached 26.846 million tonnes, up 3.1% year on year. Specifically, copper production totaled 4.406 million tonnes, an increase of 11.5%; electrolytic aluminum output stood at 16.468 million tonnes, up 1.6%; lead production amounted to 2.415 million tonnes, up 9.5%; and zinc production was 2.820 million tonnes, unchanged from the same period last year. Alumina output reached 33.337 million tonnes, up 1.1%. Copper‑related products totaled 7.958 million tonnes, a year-on-year rise of 11.4%, while aluminum‑related products amounted to 23.496 million tonnes, up 0.1%.
Compared with the previous month, prices of major non‑ferrous metals increased. In June, the average prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange for copper, electrolytic aluminum, lead, and zinc were RMB 51,997 per tonne, RMB 14,656 per tonne, RMB 20,296 per tonne, and RMB 24,259 per tonne, respectively—up 1.8%, 0.4%, 8.1%, and 1% from the prior month, and up 14.3%, 5.6%, 29.2%, and 9.3% year over year.
From January to June, the national nonferrous metal mining and beneficiation industry recorded main business revenue of RMB 214.92 billion, up 6.1% year on year, and total profits of RMB 26.0 billion, up 19.8% year on year. Meanwhile, the national nonferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry reported main business revenue of RMB 2,460.06 billion, an increase of 10.9% year on year, but its total profits amounted to RMB 63.87 billion, down 8.3% compared with the same period last year.
