Operating Performance of the Domestic Nonferrous Metals Industry from January to October

I. Smelting output posted a modest increase. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s output of ten major nonferrous metals reached 55.753 million tonnes from January to October, up 3.3% year on year. Specifically, refined copper, primary aluminum, lead, and zinc production stood at 8.986 million tonnes, 33.329 million tonnes, 6.353 million tonnes, and 5.580 million tonnes, respectively, representing year-on-year growth rates of 3.7%, 3.3%, 4.7%, and 0.8%.

I. Production of smelting products increased slightly. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s output of ten major nonferrous metals reached 55.753 million tonnes from January to October, up 3.3% year on year. Specifically, refined copper, primary aluminum, lead, and zinc production totaled 8.986 million tonnes, 33.329 million tonnes, 6.353 million tonnes, and 5.580 million tonnes, respectively, representing year-on-year growth rates of 3.7%, 3.3%, 4.7%, and 0.8%.

II. Production of fabricated metal products showed mixed trends. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, copper fabricated product output for January–October totaled 18.428 million tonnes, up 7.6% year on year, while aluminum fabricated product output reached 50.874 million tonnes, down 0.3% compared with the same period last year.

III. Imports of copper and aluminum ores have grown rapidly. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to October, China’s imports of copper ore and concentrates totaled 20.76 million tons, up 8.4% year on year; imports of aluminum ore and concentrates reached 103.66 million tons, an increase of 14.0% compared with the same period last year.
